At its meeting in February 2015, the ABOMS Board of Directors extended final approval of a new set of ABOMS Canons of Ethical Conduct.
We know that many, if not all, of our ABOMS Diplomates and ABOMS certification candidates may already support and comply with codes of ethics of other medical/dental organizations. Yet, the Board believes it is important that we support your ABOMS Diplomate credential with our own statement of ethical responsibility. We do not believe that serious misconduct afflicts our profession. However, by strongly advocating ethical behavior, the public and our patients are assured that we actively pursue initiatives to strengthen the integrity of that credential.
Beginning on March 1, 2016, the Canons of Ethical Conduct will be implemented. The 2016 Annual Registration form will include a statement of attestation that you have read and understand those Canons. A similar attestation statement will also be included in our examination applications.
Rules and Procedures for administering the Canons have also been published.
