Statement of Erroneous Certification Status

Consistent with advances in oral and maxillofacial surgery practices and techniques, requirements in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are appropriately modified to reflect the rapid pace of innovation and development in modern health care delivery.

Accordingly, it is essential that American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) be constantly vigilant that the Diplomate designation is only used to refer to those practitioners who are currently Active Diplomates of ABOMS and thus meet the highest standards of modern practice. The ABOMS actively and aggressively reviews the representations of all Diplomates as to their certification status, by, without limitation, reviewing Diplomates’ websites and advertisements and responding to reports and communications about Diplomates’ representations that it receives.

Should a non-Active Diplomate erroneously represent his/her certification status, the ABOMS will seek actively and aggressively to protect its standards and the public welfare.
