What is the Qualifying Examination?
The ABOMS Qualifying Examination (QE) is a secure, valid computer based examination administered to Board applicants / Candidates that test their knowledge in central principles of the specialty. The Qualifying Examination is the first step in becoming Board certified. The examination is made up of 300 questions covering 10 subject areas.

 

How much does it cost to take the Qualifying Examination?

First time Applicants
Application fee $650.00
Intent to Take Examination and fee $1575.00

Repeat Applicants
Application fee $1100.00
Intent to Take Examination and fee $1575.00

All fees are non-refundable.

 

How do I submit my Qualifying Examination application supporting documents?
Copies of your dental license, government identification and continuing education credits (re-applicants only) can be faxed to (312) 642-8584 or emailed to Ms. Adrianna Lagunas at alagunas@aboms.org. Training Verification forms must be sent to the ABOMS administrative office with the Program Director’s original signature.

 

Where do I take the Qualifying Examination?
The Qualifying Examination is available through PearsonVUE Testing Centers. There are over 200 testing centers in North America and US Territories. The Qualifying Examination is offered in January of each year.

 

Are hospital privileges required in order to take the Qualifying Examination?
No, hospital privileges are not required to apply for the Qualifying Examination.
