What to Expect on Exam Day

The Qualifying Examinaiton consists of 300 questions covering 10 subject areas. This examination is designed to test competency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The Board of Directors provides all applicants for the QE with an up-to-date examination blueprint. The blueprint lists the 10 domains applicants will see during their examination. All domains do not have the same amount of questions. Please download this year’s ABOMS Qualifying Examination Blueprint for details.

After you have applied for your examination and submitted your Intent to Take Examination, ABOMS will provide information regarding examination scheduling with Pearson VUE. All scheduling is completed by the examination taker. Scheduling for this examination occurs over a one month period in November to December. Pearson VUE offers several testing locations, to look up the testing center closest to you.

Pearson VUE testing facilities employ the highest level of security. The ABOMS provides applicants with day of examination instructions  to allow for preparation to examine at Pearson VUE.

The ABOMS does not offer or recommend study materials for the Qualifying Examination except the examination blueprint. The Board realizes that many resources are available to an applicant. One way to begin your study search is to contact the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
