Purpose of Annual Registration and Fee
The American Dental Association, Council on Dental Education and Licensure requires that all recognized dental specialty certifying boards maintain a yearly registration of Diplomates. Registration is a mechanism to gather data on practice activities, addresses, further credentialing designations, and licensure. The registration fee is determined by the Board. Completion of Annual Registration entitles Diplomates to receive all publications and other services provided by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS).
Certification Maintenance and Continuous Hospital Privileges
Please be advised that any Diplomate of ABOMS that began the certification process after August 1989, is required to participate in Certification Maintenance (CM). Participating in the CM process requires maintaining current hospital privileges throughout the entire CM process. If a Diplomate does not fulfill this requirement, his/her certification may be jeopardized. Reporting of Hospital Privileges takes place each year during Annual Registration.
Notice of Annual Registration
Every year the ABOMS notifies Diplomates of Annual Registration the last week of October by email. It is the Diplomate’s responsibility to be aware of this timeline. Diplomates who do not receive correspondence from ABOMS are not excused from Annual Registration requirements or deadlines. ABOMS is not responsible if a Diplomate does not receive notice due to an incorrect email address, emails that bounce, are routed to bulk/junk, or are rejected by your Internet Service Provider. It is advised that you adjust your email client’s settings to accept email from the address “email@example.com”. 2017 Annual Registration will be open from October 18 2016- December 31, 2016. After December 31, 2016 late fees will be in effect.
