About Your Digital Badge

A digital badge is more than just a certificate - it is a digital representation of your achievement that you can share easily online. With your badge, you can:

  • Highlight your accomplishment on LinkedIn and other professional networks.
  • Showcase your skills in email signatures or digital resumes.
  • Securely verify your expertise with potential employers or colleagues. (Please note this will not replace official verification letters)

As an ABOMS Diplomate, your badge will include your first and last name, your original certification date, and a summary of the required steps it took to become a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

You’ll receive an email from Credly on June 3rd with instructions on how to claim your badge. Claiming your badge is simple and takes only a few minutes:

  • Open the email from Credly.
  • Click the "Accept Badge" button.
  • Create a free account or log in to Credly.
  • Start sharing your badge with the world!

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding the digital badge. If you still need assistance, please contact info@aboms.org.

We have collaborated with Credly to translate the certification you've earned into a digital badge. Digital badges are web-enabled versions of a credential, certification or learning outcome which can be verified in real-time, online. Please note that this does not replace official verification requests from ABOMS.

The technology Credly uses is based on the Open Badge Standards maintained by IMS Global. This enables you to manage, share and verify your competencies digitally.

The badge will display your name and original certification date.

Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of.

You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature.

Here is a video tutorial on embedding your badge.

No - Accepting your badge is optional. Additionally, if you choose to accept your badge, you are not required to share or post it.

No - ABOMS is providing this to our active Diplomates at no charge. There are no fees involved when accepting or sharing a badge.

You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.

While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on Credly. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

Credly makes it easy to either merge two accounts or add another email address to your current account so that all of your badges stay in one place, regardless of the email it is sent to. For more guidance, you can view this video.

As long as you keep up with your ABOMS Certification Maintenance and Annual Registration, your digital badge will remain active.
