About the Initiative
The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) is proud to announce a new initiative designed to support dental students pursuing a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS). Through a newly launched voucher program, ABOMS will provide access to the Comprehensive Basic Science Self-Assessment (CBSSA), offered by the National Board of Medical Examiners, at no cost to eligible students.
The CBSSA is a valuable preparatory resource for the Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (CBSE), a standardized exam widely used by OMS residency programs to evaluate applicants. ABOMS has 100 CBSSA vouchers for distribution to dental students who are planning to apply to OMS residency programs. This initiative is intended to benefit students across all dental schools, including those whose institutions do not offer OMS residency programs.
Each voucher allows a student to complete one CBSSA form of their choosing through the NBME website, free of charge. Vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are valid for 90 days after redemption.
“This program reflects ABOMS’ commitment to supporting the next generation of oral and maxillofacial surgeons,” said ABOMS President Deepak Kademani, DMD, MD, FACS. “We recognize the importance of accessible preparation resources and are excited to offer this opportunity to students as they take important steps toward their careers in OMS.”
